Kell's DIY Nails

Sometimes I don't make any sense and this is one of those times; I'm getting ready to watch the Season Premiere of The Walking Dead but I put a Buffy The Vampire Slayer polish on. I'm not sure why I did that but this combo was just calling out to me and I like to listen to my polish. Well, it's got the Apocalypse in common... If The Apocalypse Comes Beep Me is a magenta purple jelly packed with various fine pink and purple glitters, there are even some flakies throughout. This was a rough one to apply; for some reason this polish separates really quickly; the middle gets really thick and goopy with the glitters so I found I had to add some thinner and still had to shake it/roll it quite often to keep it workable. I used 3 coats to even everything out; it tended to apply patchy. The brush also didn't want to cooperate too well. But after you get it to this point you can see how incredibly complex this is. Behold my Easter Nails! I went with something that could also be worn through the end of tax season. This picture does the polish no justice what-so-ever. I had to try and take a photo during the course of the work day so I just snapped some quickly whilst holding a chocolate bunny. I started with 2 coats of Field Fox which is a gorgeous muted pale neutral pink. It looked so much better in person! If you are someone who loves neutrals then don't even think about buying this, just buy it! I was thinking it might have been on the sheer side but it's not. It's opaque and easy to apply. I will definitely wear this again. On my accent nail I went with some bling, Chiffon Twirl , another one from The Gilded Dream Collection. I thought this rose gold shimmer would be really sheer but I only needed 2 coats to get to the opacity in the photo; no undies. Nice surprise. Again, I wanted to add some decals so this time I went with the gold flowers in the DIY Nails Mehndi Set....

Sorry I didn't have this up in time for St. Patrick's Day but life has been kicking my ass lately. Here is 2 coats of CND's Shellac in Serene Green . This is a really pretty deep forest green with shimmer. It came in the Charmed Set I bought awhile ago. It applied beautifully. I amped it up a little with some gold water decals from DIY Nails .

So that title just gave me a genius idea for next year (It's too late for this year); tiny handprint turkeys. Look for it next year. The husband and I love that How I Met Your Mother episode . This year I went with 2 of Barielle's Shades from their Jetsetter Collection ; Autumn In Seoul and Kiss Me Kate. On my ring nail I applied 4 tiny leaves from Jane's Tiny Things , Leaf Me Be Decals. Barielle, Autumn In Seoul : I was very plesantly surprised with this polish. When I first applied it I thought it would be really sheer, streaky, and show brush strokes but I was wrong. This does look sheer on the 1st coat but I was quite satisfied with 2 coats. The formula is thin but applies very easily (just be sure not to over work it). It dried quickly and hardly shows any kind of brush strokes. This warm bronzy brown seems to glow from within. Its quite beautiful on the nail and I love it. When it comes to Halloween and October it turns to the macabre and spooky in my life. Scary movies, haunted houses, the ouiji board, and don't forget the scary decorations. It figures that I wouldn't put cartoon pumpkins and cats on my nails. No smiling spiders here. I apply these decals like temporary tattoos and applied a coat of ACI's In A Hurry Air Dry Top Coat . *OPI is no longer Cruelty-Free but I purchased the Germany Collection back when they were Cruelty-Free.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and I wanted to help drive awareness and save lives with IASP (International Association for Suicide Prevention) . In a recent post for Depression Awareness I touched on my personal battle with Depression. What I didn't talk about is that my depression started as a young teenager; I had severe anxiety and low self esteem that often left me with feelings of hopelessness and thoughts of suicide. I always imagined myself taking a bunch of pills and never waking up. I didn't have the nerve to cut myself or use a gun; I didn't have any confidence in myself that I could do either of those without messing it up. I often felt no one cared about the things I battled on the inside; like I was invisible. My mother treated me as though my moping and sadness was simply laziness. If and when I tried to talk to her she often redirected the conversation. I could never talk to my dad about my feelings because he was too busy with work or his hobbies; ...

Back in the early 90's I was in Jr. High and among all of the trendy and popular brands was Maui and Sons . They make board shorts, tshirts, tanks, hoodies, etc.; it's all beach inspired wear. A trademark of theirs was a shark called Sharkey. They used either neons or washed out colors in their designs so I thought I would close out Shark Week with a Maui and Sons inspired shark mani. Thumb & Pinkie: I used 3 coats of Julep, Nadia . This soft golden yellow shimmer isn't bad; I was expecting it to be sheerer than it is. I also thought it would be streaky and plagued with brush strokes but I was pleasantly surprised. The formula was easy to work with; I actually used my Plié Wand for the first time doing this mani and it worked pretty well. Dry time was average. Do you know what type of shark this is? I did some Mardi Gras Nails that I adored and was very proud of.  I also did a few different green manis earlier this month that I still need to post, but first I want to show you the nails I am wearing today.   Shade. Sun. I started with 2 coats of Jessica, Lime Cooler . This fantastic pastel lime green creme is from the Summer 2012 Gelato Mio! Collection. I picked this up from Ninja Polish quite a while ago because it made me think of Essie's Navigate Her. It's no dupe but I like it even better. I used 2 coats. The first coat was pretty streaky and would drag if you over worked it so I gave the 1st coat plenty of time to dry before adding the 2nd. It then became nicely opaque. Formula was a bit thick.
