Alter Ego, Tax Pro.
Did you know I'm a Tax Pro? I really am; I work for H&R Block. A few years ago I wasn't having much luck in the job arena so I decided to take the H&R Block Income Tax Course. I ended up passing with pretty good marks and applied to work for H&R Block. I ended up getting hired and got placed in a really great office; they have a high volume of clients and it's only 10 minutes from home.

I used to be an administrator in the construction industry but when the economy took a turn for the worse, construction was one of the first and hardest hit areas. I struggled from one job to another for a few years but as time wore on I realized that I wasn't going to find any stability or any kind of 'career' in the construction industry.

Since finding this new path I really enjoy it. This may sound really cheesy but for once I have a job that truly satisfies me; it fulfills me because I get to help people in an area that many are intimidated by. I change lives; I help people take control of their finances and I empower them to make better decisions. This is one of the hardest jobs I've ever had; it forces me to be self-motivated and to take ownership of my work. I have to have discipline and be ready to go the extra mile. It makes me a better person. I'm proud of my career and for once my job is a reflection of the person I am.

So, when I was browsing through Alter Ego's FAQ Page I noticed that they were accepting Occupation Submissions as a way to develop new lacquers. I thought it would be really cool to have a polish named after my job so I sent in the email. I honestly thought I didn't have much of a chance but Cynthia actually emailed me back pretty quickly to let me know she was going to see what she could come up with. It was even more exciting when a few months later she sent me a swatch of the lacquer she settled on. I am honored to have been selected.

Tax Pro is a pretty unique shade. It's a cross between pale gold and tan. It contains very fine glitter which gives it a soft shimmer. In addition it has lots of red tinsel throughout. It's a neutral shade that is office appropriate yet the red tinsel represents the red tape that IRS Tax Law creates for many Tax Preparers, CPA's and Tax Attorney's. Alter Ego's formulas are thicker than most because they use a different type of formulation. I also have Penny Pincher and that formula is similar to Tax Pro. The red tinsel can be difficult to place on the nail and I discovered that Tax Pro is difficult to build up on it's own due to the tinsel. I decided to layer it over Finger Paints, Catwalk Queen which is a dingy yellow that leans tan. There is so much tinsel in this polish that I actually tried to minimize the amount when applying it. It did curl up a little here and there. I applied 1 coat of Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat and 1 coat of Seche Vite and could still feel some texture where the tinsel was curling up here and there. While I find the tinsel unique, I think it would be better if it were in smaller pieces or even if there was a little less of it in the bottle.

Up close and personal.
I love how these polishes have such an incredible shimmer; they have the most unique shimmer profile out of all the polishes I've ever used. I really do need to add some more Alter Ego's to my stash. Perhaps Santa will leave a few in my stocking...

Note: Alter Ego is cruelty-free. Gelous is made by Cosmetics Design Group. I couldn't find any information online so I emailed them at info@cdgla.net. They responded that they do not test their products on animals and neither do any of their 3rd party suppliers.

  1. I very much appreciate your warm hearted & honest review! I will certainly look at cutting back on the tinsel as well as see if I can find shorter-I did not have this problem when I wore this myself-thank you for sharing this:) Your application is flawless, thank you from my whole heart for your efforts!

Also very grateful you were able to find out about Gelous because I've been looking into them and as you know, I won't use them if they're not bunny safe. Good on you!
